Book Review: Shiver

Title: Shiver (The first book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls series)
Author: Maggie Stiefvater

Synopsis:

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf--her wolf--is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human . . . until the cold makes him shift back again.
Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human--or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Thoughts on the Book:
The story is like Twilight without the vampires but I can say that this is better than Twilight. I tried to read Twilight but I stopped at the middle of the book. I just watched the movie.
In Twilight, the author highlighted that werewolves have warm bodies throughout the year. In this book Stiefvater added a twist to it.  As usual, when a wolf bites a human, the human becomes a wolf only that they don't have the power to change into a wolf anytime they want.. They only shift into wolves when the temperature drops.
On average, they have 20 years to change back and forth, into human and wolf. After that life span, it would be a miracle if they would still shift to humans.
I love the characters especially SAM ROTH. Do I need to mention why? Well, if you survey girls about their ideal type, Sam belongs to that group. He's just so lovable. He loves poetry and appreciates art. He loves to compose songs. He loves reading. He's very intelligent. He's witty and humorous and he's gorgeously hot. He's so romantic.
Grace Brisbane on the other hand is your typical out of the world student. She's a very responsible daughter. She's intelligent too. She has two best friends, Rachel  and Olivia. She was once bitten by a wolf but miraculously, she haven't change. But since then, her hearing and smelling sense improved and even though she doesn't admit it, she know she's different from the normal people.
Sam and Grace fit each other. They compliment each other. They're a perfect match.
Overall, the story is more on romance and towards the end it becomes dramatic especially when Sam is about to change into a wolf. (which means it's his last year as a human and he'll forever be a wolf.)

Quotes from the Book:
My wolf was a cute guy and he was holding my hand. I could die happy.
***
I wasn't sure if I was charmed by his reluctance to share a bed with a girl or insulted that, apparently, I wasn't hot enough for him to charge the mattress like a hell.

          You're my change of skin
          My summer-winter-fall
          I spring to follow you
          This loss is beautiful

          Crashing into the trembling void
          Stretching my hand to you
          Losing myself to frigid regret
          Is this fragile love
          a way
          to say
          good-bye

Some days seem to fit together like a stained glass window. A hundred little pieces of different color and mood that, when combined, create a complete picture.

I fell for her in summer, my lovely summer girl
From summer she is made, my lovely summer girl
I'd love to spend a winter with my lovely summer girl
But I'm never warm enough for my lovely summer girl
It's summer when she smiles, I'm laughing like a child
She holds the heat, the breeze of summer in the curve of her hand
I'd be happy with this summer if it's all we ever had.
