Crawling Over the Pages: Book Review: Such a Rush

High school senior Leah Jones loves nothing more than flying. While she’s in the air, it’s easy to forget life with her absentee mother at the low-rent end of a South Carolina beach town. When her flight instructor, Mr. Hall, hires her to fly for his banner advertising business, she sees it as her ticket out of the trailer park. And when he dies suddenly, she’s afraid her flying career is gone forever.

But Mr. Hall’s teenage sons, golden boy Alec and adrenaline junkie Grayson, are determined to keep the banner planes flying. Though Leah has crushed on Grayson for years, she’s leery of getting involved in what now seems like a doomed business — until Grayson betrays her by digging up her most damning secret. Holding it over her head, he forces her to fly for secret reasons of his own, reasons involving Alec. Now Leah finds herself drawn into a battle between brothers — and the consequences could be deadly.

The book was good. The characters were very unconventional and some were psychologically troubled. It talks about family, friendship, love, dealing with lost, betrayal, and anger.

THE CHARACTERS. Some of them are very unconventional and troubled that I had difficulty understanding their character. Take Grayson for example. Sometimes he acts normal but most of the time he acts impulsively. When he wants to avoid saying something stupid, he grips his hands into a fist until his knuckles turn to white. It serves as his stress absorber. I don't like the way he subjected Leah to blackmail just so she could date his brother. I understand that he doesn't want his brother to die, but making the girl you love flirt with your brother is so below the belt. It's like he doesn't care if the person he loses the person he loves as long as he gets rid of his problem with his brother. He really should visit a psychologist to discuss his depression issues over what happened to his brother and his dad. When I think of Grayson, I think of Alex Pettyfer.

LEAH. She is the epitome of a survivor. She knows how to live. She gives the aura of "I-don't-give-a-shit" attitude. Everyone judges her with her slutty appearance and the place where she lives but she doesn't care anymore because being seen as a mean girl to those who sees her as dirty and immoral gives her power. The only opinion she cares about is that of Grayson. She's been crushing on him since she were fourteen.

Mr. Hall's relationship with his sons is so sad. He never had the chance to tell them what he really feels and the saddest part is he hadn't even tried. I guess it has something to do with their communication practice. He should have at least tried to open up to his sons. That reason alone had caused his own demise because he carried all his worries inside him.

Leah and Molly's friendship started wrongly. Leah thought she was just one of Molly's charity case. It's good that they got to have a confrontation and they both voiced out what they're feeling. I didn't like how Molly called Leah immoral and dirty just because she thinks she slept with Alec. I hated her that moment. In the first place, Leah doesn't know that Alec already knows her deal with Grayson. That was so unfair. She judged Leah by what other people say about her and when Leah voiced out the real reason about Ryan, I really wished I have witnessed the confrontation with my own eyes.

My favorite part is when she went flying with mark. That was such a rush and I salute Leah for being a very good pilot. These were exactly what I thought, "Yes Leah. That's right. Show Grayson and Molly what you've got. Make them worried so they'd hate themselves when something happens to you. Make them grovel!"
