Requiem is told from both Lena’s and Hana’s points of view. The two girls live side by side in a world that divides them until, at last, their stories converge.
For every book series that I read, the last book is always the most depressing to read. It always makes me lonely to part with the characters because they become a part of my life.
Requiem, obviously, us the last book in the Delirium Series. If you haven’t read enough action scenes in Pandemonium, then you’ll have enough by the end of this book.
The book sustained its pace. There are surprisingly more twists in the story and you’d be surprised to find the tidbits when you read this book.
My suspicions regarding some characters were confirmed in this book. I wouldn’t want to spoil your fun so I won’t be divulging the juiciest information. Writing a review about this book is a bit tricky since it’s impossible not to reveal some spoilers but I promise I’ll mellow it down a bit.
The story was told in alternating point of views between Hana and Lena.
HANA. In this book, she is already cured. Though she had already undergone the procedure, she can still feel things she’s not supposed to feel. Her emotions are somewhat subdued. She’s scheduled to marry the mayor’s son and be the model wife everyone around her assumes she should be. But somehow, her inner rebellious self shouts to reveal itself.
LENA. By the end of this book, you’ll see her character metamorphosis. She’d become braver and more aware of her surroundings. She learned how to fight to survive and fight for what she wants. She learned to accept that things have changed and she can’t undo the past. She embraced and appreciated things around her but she’s still confused on her feelings toward Alex and Julian. Though I know that she also loves Julian but not as strong as how she loved Alex.
JULIAN. I love this guy even though he’s not an alpha-male material. He sacrificed a lot just to be with Lena, even his privileged life. I love how he persevered and tried to fit in the crowd in the wilds. He adjusted his personality to adapt to a new environment and for that I commend his character.
ALEX. Though, I understand where he’s coming from, I kind of hated how he distanced his self from Lena. The world they live in might collapse any moment, isn’t it just faire to let go of yourself a bit and get what you want?
Overall, the book is good. I enjoyed it except for some parts that left me frustrated. The questions that have been lingering in my mind (and I bet, you readers also have a lot of these) will be answered in this book. It isn’t as intense as I expected it to be but it’s still good.
The ending garnered a lot of frustration from me because it was so open-ended. I didn’t see that one coming. Though, I understand why the author left it at that. Many readers expected a really happy ending for the main characters but think about it, they just came scathed from the chaos brought by the movement against the cured and one can’t be sure what to expect as the outcome of it. Everybody seemed unsure of how to proceed with their lives. Will they be enjoying themselves or wait for another chaos? Will Lena choose Alex or will she remain faithful to Julian? I hope you are rooting for either of them because you’ll need to believe in your convictions in the end.
